The Sonepat police have suspended Murthal station house officer Rakesh Kumar (sub-inspector) after an audio clip of him demanding a dinner set and free food from a local food joint went viral on social media.
The owners of the food joint, Dheeraj and Ravi, had filed a complaint with CM window and SP office against the constant harassment by the SHO.
They stated that the SHO extorted Rs 10,000-worth dinner set from them by threatening to shut their shop and book them in false case. They further said that the SHO would send his men to their shop everyday and force them to supply free food. They said their ‘chaap’ shop was close to the police station.
In one of the audios submitted by the complainants, which has now gone viral, the SHO is purportedly heard asking for dinner set from them over phone and complaining of delay. The complainants also recorded the video clips of cops visiting their shop and submitted along with their complaint.
The investigation officer in the case, DSP Mukesh Kumar, said they had received a complaint, based on which they have placed sub-inspector Rakesh Kumar under suspension and shifted him to police lines. He said further departmental inquiry against him was on and sub inspector (SI) Baljeet Singh was deputed as the new SHO of Murthal station.
