India on Tuesday recorded 3,714 new coronavirus cases - 17 percent fewer compared to the day before, taking the overall tally to 4,31,85,049. Earlier on Monday, the country had recorded a total of 4,518 cases. According to the health ministry data, seven deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total fatalities to 5,24,708. The recovery rate currently stands at 98.72 percent with 2,513 people recovering in the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries in the country is 4,26,33,365.
India's active caseload currently stands at 26,976 - accounting for 0.06 per cent of the total cases. The daily positivity rate stands at 1.21 percent, while the weekly positivity rate is at 0.97 percent. A total of 85.32 crore samples have been tested so far, with 3,07,716 tests being conducted in the last 24 hours.

India's vaccine coverage has been expanded and over 194.27 crore doses have been given so far. Over 3.45 crore first doses and over 1.79 crore second doses have been administered for the 12 to 14 the age group. Over 5.96 crore first doses and more than 4.63 crore second doses have been given to the 15 to 18 age group. Meanwhile, over 3.42 crore precaution doses (booster shots) have been given to people above 60 years of age, healthcare workers, and frontline workers.
According to the government, more than 193.53 crore vaccine doses have been provided to states and union territories so far through the government of India and the direct state procurement category. Over 14.65 crore balance and unutilized vaccine doses are still available with states to be administered, it said.

While the Maharashtra government has appealed to citizens to start wearing masks again in closed spaces, Bengaluru's civic agency has made masks compulsory in public places in view of the rising Covid-19 cases. Bengaluru has also decided to increase the tests for the virus from the existing 16,000 a day to 20,000 per day.
