JNUSU elections 2018 highlights: Highest-ever 70% polling recorded

JNUSU elections 2018: Elections were held for the posts of president, general secretary, vice-president and joint secretary. Here are the highlights.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students voted on Friday in the students’ union polls, which will test the electoral fortunes of 12 candidates eyeing the top post in the politically active campus.

The Left-backed All India Students’ Association (AISA), Students Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Students Federation (DSF) and All India Students Federation (AISF) have come together to form the United Left alliance.

The Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have also put up candidates and are looking to challenge the Left hegemony on campus.

Elections were held for the posts of president, general secretary, vice-president and joint secretary.

In DUSU elections, the RSS-backed Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won three out of four posts on the panel, including those of the president, vice-president and joint secretary. The Congress’ student wing NSUI had to settle only for the secretary’s post.
