Days after the arrest of Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee and his aide, Arpita Mukherjee, over alleged discrepancies in the recruitments for schools, concerns were raised about Mukherjee's security by her lawyer. Mukherjee's car met with an accident on Sunday after she was remanded in the custody of Enforcement Directorate. The central probe said that cash - worth more than ₹21 crore - was found at Mukherjee's home on Friday. Soon after, the two arrests followed.
"My client has been in the custody of the Enforcement for the past four days. I've drawn the attention of the court to the fact that there has been no development in the case. The probe agency remains silent on the remand application, and in oral arguments," Niladri Bhattacharya, advocate of Arpita Mukherjee, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Monday. His comments came amid hearing over the ED seeking custody.
"In light of the accident yesterday, I have raised concerns about the security of my client. Who takes responsibility if any untoward incident occurs?" the lawyer added. Both of them have been sent to ED custody till August 3.
Partha Chatterjee was not in need of hospitalisation, AIIMS Bhubaneswar said earlier in the day, a day after the high court directed the ED to take him to the Odisha hospital for check from state-run SSKM hospital in Bengal. After his arrest, Chatterjee was hospitalised when he complained of uneasiness.

{{/usCountry}}Mamata Banerjee too broke her silence on the matter amid attacks by rivals. "I will not get into the details of the case as it is sub judice. We have full faith in the judiciary. We want a time-bound probe into the matter. If someone is found guilty, the person should be punished accordingly, be it life imprisonment. I won't mind. But, I condemn the malicious campaign against me," she was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
