PRAYAGRAJ To ensure facilities for Magh Mela pilgrims visiting Prayagraj, four mega passenger shelters have been made ready by the railways at the Prayagraj Junction. Each of these shelters have the capacity to accommodate 2,500 passengers. Therefore, 10,000 passengers could stay at Prayagraj Junction itself, if needed, said officials. “All shelters have been embellished with enquiry counters, unreserved ticket counters, train timing display boards, announcement systems, drinking water, lighting, and toilets to ensure that passengers do not face any inconvenience,” said Prayagraj Division’s PRO Amit Singh.
Railways authorities are also ensuring tight security arrangements for the visiting pilgrims. To this end, the count of CCTVs has been increased and a large number of Railway Protection Force and GRP personnel have been also deployed, added Singh.
According to the plan, passengers going towards Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction on major bathing festivals will be able to catch the trains at Naini and Chheoki stations. This will help those going towards Meja Road, Manda Road, Vindhyachal, Mirzapur, Chunar, and other stations. Similarly, passengers going towards Kanpur will be able to board the trains from Prayagraj Junction. Devotees going towards Manikpur will be boarding trains at Naini and Chheoki stations. Meanwhile, devotees traveling toward Lucknow will have to catch the trains from Prayag and Phaphamau stations. Finally, the passengers going towards Ayodhya will do so from Prayag and Phaphamau stations, said officials.
Like in previous years, the railways will stop the entry of passengers from the Civil Lines side of the railway station on all the six major bathing festivals of Magh Mela. Passengers will be allowed to enter from the city side of the railway station and exit only from the Civil Lines side. These restrictions would remain in place on the following occasions -- Paush Purnima, from 12 noon on January 5 to 12 noon on January 7; Makar Sankranti from 12 noon to 4 pm on January 13; Mauni Amavasya from midnight of January 20 to midnight of January 22; Basant Panchami from noon of January 25 to noon of January 27; Maghi Purnima from noon of February 4 to noon of February 6; and Maha Shivratri from noon of February 17 to noon of February 19.
