Maoists set 18 vehicles on fire in Bastar’s mining area

Around 4pm, nearly 150 Maoists, including women, reached the mining area in Chhattisgarh and torched 18 vehicles, and warned the people employed there to stop the work.

Maoists set afire 18 vehicles at Barbaspur mining area under Kanker district of Bastar region on Tuesday, police said.

No one was hurt in the incident, the police said.

Around 4pm, a group of 150 Maoists, including women, reached the mining area and torched 18 vehicles, and warned the people employed there to stop the work, the police added.

Kanker deputy superintendent of police Shailendra Pandey told HT that Maoists reached the site under Nikko Jaiswal Group situated at Chargaon-Barbaspur under Korer police station and burnt the vehicles, which were engaged by the miner company.

The Maoists had fled as soon as the police reached the area.

“We have started a combing operation and investigation is going on. Extra police forces have been deployed in the area,” said Pandey.
