The BJP called a meeting of its Delhi leaders at the party headquarters even as four exit polls have projected a comfortable majority for the AAP, which had led a fierce election campaign focused on “kaam ki rajneeti”.
The exit polls, a poll of voters taken immediately after they exit the polling stations, have projected a vast improvement in the seats netted by the Bharatiya Janata Party over its 2015 performance. Exit polls do often get their numbers wrong.
Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari, however, tweeted predicting the party’s victory.
“All these exit polls will fail. Please save this tweet from me. The BJP will form the government with 48 seats. Please do not find an excuse to blame EVMs now,” said Tiwari.
The BJP’s campaign was fronted by home minister Amit Shah, who went door-to-door canvassing support for the party. The BJP and the Congress did not declare their chief ministerial face. The AAP won the 2015 polls in spectacular fashion, bagging 67 out of 70 seats.
