Official account of BJP Madhya Pradesh on X(formerly Twitter) shared the names of leaders who were present when leader Mohan Yadav met the governor.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan submitted his resignation to Governor Mangubhai Patel after Mohan Yadav was elected as the leader of the state legislative party at a meeting held here on Monday.

Chouhan reached Raj Bhavan immediately after the meeting of newly-elected MLAs concluded and tendered his resignation.

"I am going to work to the expectations of the people of the state who have overwhelmingly voted for the BJP. The BJP has given a big responsibility to a small worker. I am going to work to the expectations of the party," Mohan Yadav said.

"I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party president JP Nadda. I will work on the welfare and development (schemes) launched by Modiji and (outgoing) chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan," he added.

After Mohan Yadav was elected as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, his wife says "Bhagwan Mahakal ka ashirwad hai, party ka ashirwad hai. He has been working with the BJP since 1984. Whenever he used to come to Ujjain, he went to offer prayers to Mahakal..."

• Mohan Yadav is member of Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly, represents Ujjain Dakshin constituency in Ujjain district.

• Elected MLA in 2013, continued success in 2018 and 2023 elections from the same seat.

• Served as a cabinet minister in Shivraj Singh Chouhan's government from 2020.

In a surprise move, BJP picks Mohan Yadav as new chief minister of Madhya Pradesh.

BJP made central observers last time in the state in 2005 when former CM Babu Lal Gaur left the CM post. After that, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan took the oath for the first time as Chief Minister of the state in November 2005. Earlier, the central observers were appointed in 2004 when former CM Uma Bharti left the CM post and after that, Babu Lal Gaur was appointed as CM of the state.

Since then, no central observers have been appointed in the state. During the state assembly polls in 2008 and 2013, BJP remained in power and Chouhan continued to be the CM of the state.

In the midst of speculation about the chief ministerial candidate in Madhya Pradesh, BJP's central observer and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar met with Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday.
