Madhya Pradesh police on Wednesday rescued a girl from Tikamgarh three days after she was abducted by five miscreants posing as policemen, and arrested four accused over the incident.
The main accused in the case Devraj Singh is however still absconding, police said.
Three pistols and seven bullets were recovered from the arrestees identified as Dharmendra Singh, Rajesh Raikwar, Hemraj Kurmi and Rajesh Singh.
Superintendent of police, Panna, Riyaz Iqbal said they were yet to record the statement of the girl and were trying to know the motive behind the crime.
The police officer said they were yet to confirm the veracity of the claim made by some accused that the alleged love affair between Devraj Singh and the girl was the motive behind the abduction.
According to police, after abducting the girl from Panna district, the accused took her to various places in the state such as Damoh, Sagar, Bhopal, Indore, Shivpuri before proceeding to Delhi via Agra.
The four accompanied Devraj Singh till Shivpuri.
Devraj Singh later returned with the girl to Tikamgarh, from where she was rescued by the police. Singh, however, managed to give police the slip.
On Sunday, the five had looted a Dial 100 van, stripped policemen in it, donned their uniform and then abducted the girl from her home in a remote village in Panna district, more than 400 kilometers north east of Bhopal.
According to police, the gang called the Dial 100 van saying a man in an inebriated state was creating nuisance near Bamuraha village under Amangang Tehsil.
When the head constable Prakash Mandal along with a SAF jawan Subhash Dubey reached the spot in the van, they saw a man lying on the road with his face down. When they got close to the man he rose and aimed a pistol at them.
Immediately, four other accused joined him and overpowered the police team. The gang then stripped the cops and the driver, tied their hands and legs, put them in another car. Some of the gang members then wore the police uniforms and headed to Bamuraha village in the police van.
On reaching the girl’s home, they asked her father to accompany them to the police station with her daughter to record their statements in connection with an FIR the girl had lodged over an alleged sexual harassment.
As the girl’s father became suspicious and hesitated to go the “police station,” the accused forced him, his brother and daughter to sit in the van.
After travelling some distance, they forced the girl’s father and uncle to get down from the van. They then returned to the sport from where they carjacked the van to return the police uniforms and vehicle. They then sped away with the girl in another vehicle.
After receiving the information about the sensational crime, the police launched a manhunt to nab the five.
Devraj is a history-sheeter, involved in several crimes including a murder and was externed from the district.
