GWALIOR: An 18-year-old student on her way to a coaching centre was ambushed and raped in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district on Wednesday by two men, including a 22-year-old man who she had accused of sexual harassment in 2023, police said.

Gwalior additional superintendent of police (Addl SP) Vidita Dagar said the prime accused was arrested within hours of the sexual assault, and efforts were being made to track down the second suspect.
Police said the woman, a first-year college student, had filed a sexual harassment case against Harsh Kumar in 2023. The status of the case is unclear.
Dagar said the woman was travelling from the Sirol area to Padav, a distance of about 8km, on Wednesday when two men on a motorcycle intercepted her in a secluded area. They hit her scooter, causing her to fall. “The men then dragged her into nearby bushes, where one of them assaulted her. Despite her injuries, she managed to reach home and inform her family,” the senior district police officer said.
Police said the doctors confirmed sexual assault.
