Panchayat member, husband murdered in sleep over land dispute in Allahabad

Block development council (BDC) member Santoshi Devi and her husband were sleeping outside their home in Kalandarpur village when they were attacked. Villagers discovered their death on Thursday morning.

A panchayat official and her husband were murdered at a village near Allahabad on Wednesday night, according to police who believe a land dispute may have been the motive for the murder.

Block development council (BDC) member Santoshi Devi and her husband were sleeping outside their home in Kalandarpur village when they were attacked. Villagers discovered their death on Thursday morning and informed the police.

Devi, 35, was member of the Mauaima block development council and was also an active member of Apna Dal.

According to family members, the couple’s bodies were found soaked in their blood, with a large knife and an iron rod purportedly used to murder them found nearby.

As news of the double murders spread, a large number of locals and Apna Dal workers gathered at the site. Soraon cops and a forensics team also arrived and began investigation.

According to officials, the assailants slashed Santoshi Devi’s throat and stabbed her on the chest and head. Her husband was hit on the head with the iron rod.

The eldest son of the victims Anshuman, a class 10 student, and his younger brother Mahendra told police that they had a dispute with a resident of the same village over a plot.
