New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited health care startups to be a part of the flagship Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme under the Start-up Grand Challenge that was launched on Tuesday.
The launch for providing technological support to the scheme was held during the valedictory session of Aarogya Manthan, a two-day stakeholders’ consultation following the completion of one year of the scheme.
“We urge all startups in the health care sectors to come forward and be a part of this scheme,” Modi said.
Modi said that efforts were on to make the scheme foolproof and bring about improvements to serve the people better. He cited an estimate and added 1.1 lakh million new jobs will be created due to demand arising out of the scheme over in the next 5-7 years.
Modi said that it is a matter of great satisfaction that the poor do not have to mortgage their land or ornaments for getting treatment as they are getting assistance under the scheme. “India’s health care system will be an example for the world,’’ he said. Modi described Ayushman Bharat as one of the several revolutionary steps.
Modi said that the scheme’s big achievement was that 4.6 million people have been pulled out of the “darkness of disease”. He added as the demand is increasing in small cities, the modern medical infrastructure network is increasing.

Earlier, Modi interacted with select beneficiaries of the scheme and visited an exhibition showcasing its journey over the past year.
