The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia, a former minister in the Punjab government, in a case of alleged disproportionate assets.

The senior leader has been in the jail at Nabha for seven months, in a case he has termed “cheap political vendetta” by the state's AAP government led by CM Bhagwant Mann.
A detailed order was awaited.
The SC relief comes while the SAD led by Majithia's brother-in-law Sukhbir Singh Badal alleged last month that there was a threat to his life in the jail.
Leaders of the SAD met the Punjab Governor alleging that the state government had done "nothing concrete" to safeguard Majithia “despite intelligence inputs indicating a threat to his life”.
Majithia was arrested in June 2025 in the disproportionate assets case by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
SAD leaders alleged that additional cameras were being installed inside Majithia's prison cell as an "eyewash" and in further violation of his rights.
They claimed there was an attempt to install a camera facing the washroom and the toilet, allegedly with the intention of recording him without his clothes and turban or parna, which they said amounted to an invasion of privacy and hurt religious sentiments.

The state government has rejected such allegations.
