The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and the Swadeshi Jagran Manch were vocal in their opposition last month when the Modi government lifted overseas investment ceilings in civil aviation and defence, among other areas.

Leaders of the affiliated groups shared their concerns with BJP chief Amit Shah, finance minister Arun Jaitley, commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RSS leaders Krishna Gopal and Dattatreya Hosabale. Sources said they were told that opening up these sectors was in line with the government’s commitment to reforms.
