The Delhi Police on Monday said they have arrested a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, who allegedly led a module of "highly radicalised operatives" who defaced the walls of metro stations in Delhi last month and planned "further-terror-based activities." People aware of the matter identified the accused as Shabir Ahmad Lone.
Lone was arrested over a month after pro-Pakistan and pro-terror posters were pasted at Janpath Metro Station in February. Similar posters were later found at multiple locations across Delhi. Police said the posters glorifying slain terrorist Burhan Wani carried anti-India slogans. The case was transferred to the Delhi Police Special Cell (the counter-terrorism unit).
Last month, police said eight people, mostly Bangladeshis, who allegedly entered India illegally, procured forged Indian identity documents, and conducted reconnaissance of key installations for potential terror strikes, were arrested in the case.
Additional police commissioner (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah had last month said the arrests were made following coordinated raids in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. He had identified Lone, alias Raja, alias Kashmiri, as the head of the module and said he was based in Bangladesh.
Kushwah last month said Lone planned to use Bangladeshi nationals assuming Indian identities to carry out terror strikes. "In December 2025, Umar [another arrested accused] was directed to conduct reconnaissance of important installations and send videos for assessment,” Kushwah had said.

{{/usCountry}}Investigators said Umar and his aide took a connecting flight from Kolkata to Delhi via Patna on February 6, and allegedly pasted posters at 10 locations across Delhi, recorded videos of the act on February 7, and returned to Kolkata by train the next day. They added videos that were sent to Lone, who congratulated them and instructed them to replicate the act in Kolkata.
Kushwah had said Lone directed Umar to arrange weapons through local contacts. "He had rented accommodation in Kolkata to be used as a hideout and operational base."
