The death tally due to rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand shot up by one when a van gujjar died after drowning in the Asan River in Jhajra area of Dehradun district on Wednesday noon, according to officials. With this the total deaths in state since Tuesday has reached seven. The incessant rains since Monday night have thrown life out of gear. More than 150 roads are blocked in the state. The Dehradun-Delhi national highway was blocked in the morning and was cleared by the noon. The Yamnotri highway was however closed till the filing of this report. Major rivers in the state are flowing close to the danger mark. In Haridwar Ganga River crossed the danger mark.

The rains created havoc in Dehradun leading to Rispana and Bindal rivers creating havoc in the downtown areas. Rains took one more life after one identified as Kaalu, a van gujjar of of Sabhawala, jumped into the flowing Asan to save his buffaloes, but got caught in the fast current of the overflowing river. According to Deepshikha Rawat, district disaster management officer, upon receiving information, a team of local administration, police and disaster response force rushed to the spot. The joint team rescued him at a point around 2 km away near Jhajra bridge and gave him first aid but the man could not survive, the police said. .
On Tuesday six people were killed in different rain-related accidents. The Rudraprayag district administration has stopped the Kedarnath pilgrimage till further orders. The MeT department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in next 24 hours as well. Government’s spokesperson and cabinet minister Madan Kaushik said “the district magistrates are authorised to take a call to close schools or halt pilgrimage. It’s a temporary arrangement and nothing to panic”

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile in Haridwar district administration sounded an alert after Ganga river crossed the danger mark of 293 meters. According to district magistrate Deepak Rawat officials have been asked to focus on the low-lying areas where flooding could happen.
