Manimaran was attacked with a sickle by his son from an earlier marriage, Rajesh, after retiring to his chambers after a court session.

“Rajesh fought with his father and then pulled an aruval (sickle) out,” police said.

The high court premises is protected by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). But a lawyer familiar with the situation said the CISF has a minimal presence, and they offer protection only to judges and not advocates.

Manimaran was taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai, where he is currently stable.

Rajesh was also taken to a local hospital after sustaining injuries in the scuffle. He is under police supervision.
