Tripura college student allegedly abducted, raped while returning home: Police

A college student was allegedly abducted and raped by unknown people while returning home from college in West Tripura, police said. No arrests have been made.

A college student was allegedly raped on Tuesday while she was on her way home from college in West Tripura district, police said on Wednesday.

Police lodged a First Information Report (FIR) based on the complaint at a local police station.

Police said the survivor, who is married, was allegedly abducted by unknown people, who later raped her before abandoning her a few kilometres away from the place.

“A case was lodged and the matter is under investigation. No one has been arrested till now,” a police officer, requesting anonymity, said.

A total of 667 cases related to crimes against women were lodged and 426 persons were arrested in connection with these cases last year in Tripura.

Of the total crimes against women cases lodged last year, 168 were rape cases and 116 were molestation cases. During the investigation, police found the involvement of 298 persons in rape-related cases and arrested 182 persons.

The same year recorded a total of 116 molestation cases, in which the involvement of 186 persons was found. Police arrested 58 persons in connection with molestation cases.

In 2024, a total of 724 cases related to crimes against women were lodged, among which 180 were rape cases, followed by 108 molestation cases.
