A Tripura court on Tuesday convicted a 50-year-old woman for killing her husband with a sharp weapon three years ago to get rid of domestic violence at Birganj in Gomati district.

The court sentenced her to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after she was found guilty by the trial court.

The incident occurred on April 27, 2023, when the deceased physically assaulted the convict.

Police said that the convict, identified as Kajal Kanya Jamatia, killed her husband, Prem Guru Jamatia (60) by slitting his throat with a chopper and later surrendered herself before the police.

A team of police found the body, murder weapon and interrogated Kajal Kanya. During investigation, police came to know that the deceased used to physically and mentally abuse his wife after consuming alcohol leading to an altercation at their home everyday.
