Pune: Two people were killed and another was seriously injured after a hatchback car crashed into a metro pillar near the Yerwada Metro Station in Pune’s Koregaon Park early Sunday morning, police said.

According to police officers, the accident took place around 4.30 am when the car, reportedly travelling at high speed, lost control and rammed into the pillar. “The impact was so severe that two passengers in their 20s died on the spot, while the third was taken to a hospital in critical condition,” an officer from the Koregaon Park police station said.
“The process of identifying the victims is underway. Two were declared brought dead by doctors, while the third male passenger is on ventilator support,” the officer added.
Police are probing whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
The officer said that efforts are currently on to clear the road and register a case under relevant sections. “Further investigation is in progress,” he added.
