An elderly couple was killed in Kashipur area in US Nagar after their house collapsed in the wee hours on Sunday, said police.

A woman also received severe injuries in the incident and she has been hospitalized in Kashipur, said police.

People were very upset due to water logging. Today all the ministers and mayor of Delhi will inspect the problem areas. Officers of all departments have been instructed to cancel the Sunday holiday and get on the ground,” he tweeted.

Bhaderwah district in Jammu and Kashmir is currently grappling with a flood-like situation as the water level in the Neeru river has risen significantly due to relentless heavy rains in the region.

IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain in Punjab for Sunday. Orange alert is the second highest of the four-level alerts issued by IMD. Under orange alert, residents are advised to stay alert and be prepared. The rain intensity will decrease from Monday onwards, but chances of light to moderate rain will continue.

Between 8:30 am on Saturday and 8:30 am on Sunday, around 322 mm rain has been recorded in Chandigarh. This has broken the all time record for highest amount of rain in 24 hours in July. This is also the wettest day since the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has started maintaining records in the city in 1953, making it the wettest day in 70 years.

The railway track between Koti and Sanwara railway stations on Kalka-Shimla route in Himachal Pradesh has been closed due to heavy rainfall.
