‘Why not arrested till now?’ asks lawyer of coach who accused Haryana minister

The coach's advocate asked the reason for not arresting the minister despite being booked under non-bailable offences.

Haryana sports minister Sandeep Singh was booked for harassing a female athletics coach “physically and mentally” and now the lawyer associated with the case is raising question on his arrest. The coach's advocate asked the reason for not arresting the minister despite being booked under non-bailable offences.

“Why has Sandeep Singh not been arrested till now when non-bailable offences are registered against him? She (woman coach) has submitted her statement under 164 CrPc today,” the advocate was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Expressing hope on appropriate action, the female coach earlier said Singh “continued to harass” her physically and mentally. The former Indian hockey player dismissed all the allegations.

Earlier, Sandeep Singh stepped down from his position as the state's sports minster till the investigation is complete. He has been accuded under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrager her modesty, 354A (Sexula harassment), 354B (Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 342 (Wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Chandigarh Police visited the minister's residence today.
