One person died while six others — including four police personnel — were injured in three separate road accidents during the New Year celebration period from Saturday night to early Sunday morning. In the first accident, three people, including two Delhi Police personnel, were critically injured after a speeding Maruti Swift car hit a police control room (PCR) van near Karkari More in east Delhi around 4am on Sunday.
According to a senior police officer, the PCR van overturned on the road and the Swift car climbed on it due to the impact of the accident. Tula Ram, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), 59, constable Arun Kumar, 20, and a passer-by, identified as Nagmani, 32, was injured. All of them were rushed to LL Bahadur Shastri Hospital, police said.
The 19-year-old errant driver Diwan Singh, who was in his car with his two friends, has been arrested for rash and negligent driving causing hurt.
In the second accident, a Delhi Police sub-inspector (SI) and a constable were injured after a speeding car hit them from the front on Harish Chandra Mathur Marg in east Delhi around 11.45 pm on Saturday.
The injured cops are SI Lallan Prasad and constable Sonu Rana, both posted at the Anand Vihar police station. The victims, who are recuperating at GTB hospital, were strolling on the road when the accident took place. The police are looking for the errant car driver. The third accident took place near Ajmeri Gate where a motorcyclist lost his life while his friend was injured after they were hit a lightweight vehicle late on Saturday night.
