TEN PERSONS, including an eight-year-old boy, were killed and 89 others injured, some of them seriously in road accidents in Katni and Raisen districts of the State on Monday. Six persons, including an eight-year-old boy died and 41 others were injured when the bus they were travelling in fell into a canal (nallah) near Katni, around 110 km from Jabalpur, police said.
The Shahdol bound bus from Katni fell from a small bridge due to some mechanical problem late Saturday evening, Deputy Inspector General of Police D Shrinivas Rao said. The dead have been identified as Bhaiyalal, Tomar Singh, Jagdish Soni, Munnalal, Jageshwar and Ranglal. The injured were treated Katni district hospital, he said.
The district administration has provided a financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each for the families of those killed while the injured were given Rs 2,000 each, he said.
In Raisen district four persons were killed on the spot and 48 others injured, three of them seriously when the tractor-trolley in which they were travelling overturned at Barukhar ghats near here.
The tractor-trolley, carrying members of a marriage procession from Chamaria-Khaparia village to Badkui, overturned at a sharp turn Saturday night, police said.
