10 more succumb to JE in Gorakhpur

Ten more patients, including seven children, succumbed to encephalitis at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur in the past 24 hours.

Ten more patients, including seven children, succumbed to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur in the past 24 hours. With this, the death toll at the medical college went up to 574 since the outbreak of the disease.

Forty-three new patients were brought here for treatment from various districts of the division.

The total number of patients admitted since the outbreak went up to 2189. At present, 234 patients are undergoing treatment in different wards of the medical college.

Meanwhile, UP Women Congress activists observed a fast at the district magistrate’s office to protest against the “State Government’s apathy” towards the encephalitis deaths.

They handed over a four-point memorandum to the ADM City and expressed anger over the State Government delaying permission for aerial fogging.

They demanded recruitment to vacant posts of doctors at the medical college and the district hospital.

State Women Congress president Dr Sudha Rai condemned the State Government’s “reluctance” to permit aerial fogging. She said the “insens
itivity” of the government was exposed and claimed that Congress party would provide all assistance to encephalitis patients.

Meanwhile, Congress corporator Sunaina Singh and others staged a fast at Indira Gandhi crossing against “anti-people policies” of the government.
