Bopaiah issued the notice after Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa lodged a complaint against the 11 legislators for indulging in anti-party activities.

The notice was issued under the provisions of anti-defection law to 11 MLAs, including Excise Minister MP Renukacharya, who had initially led the mutiny and later announced plans to reconcile with the ruling party.

The legislators have been asked to tender their reply to the speaker in person before 5 pm on Octiber 10, a day before Yeddyurappa plans to move a confidence motion.

Governor HR Bharadwaj had asked the chief minister to prove majority after 19 MLAs - 14 BJP and 5 independent legislators - had submitted letters to him seeking withdrawal of their support to the BJP government.

The dissident MLAs have been hopping across various cities and are currently lodged at a resort in Goa.

Attempts were made to broker peace by Tourism Minister Janardhan Reddy - who along with his brother Karunakara and friend B Sriramulu (both ministers) had led a coup against Yeddyurappa in 2009 end.

The notices were issued to Renukacharya, Balachandra Jakirholi, Anand Asnotikar, Belur Gopalakrishna, Shivanagouda Naik, Gowda Sampangi, HS Shankaralinge, MV Nagaraju, GN Nanjudaswamy, Sarbhouma Bagali and Baramgouda Kage.
