Eleven people were killed in a boat accident in rough waters off the Indonesian province of North Maluku, media reports said on Monday.

The accident took place on Saturday when a vessel carrying 22 people went down while en route to Tubang from Palabisahaya village in North Maluku, about 2,340 km northeast of Jakarta.
The inter-island boat was hit by huge waves during bad weather about 15 minutes after leaving port, Jakarta's Kompas daily reported.
The passengers on board the ill-fated boat were all employees of a local timber company. They were leaving for Tubang village on Sula Islands to attend a wedding reception.
