Irate residents later, smashed the bus and blocked traffic for almost two hours. They were demanding compensation and the erring driver’s arrest.
The incident took place around 4 pm when Amir, a Class II student of Florence Nightingle School and resident of Old Takia Market, Nishatganj, was on his way to the market on his bicycle. City bus (UP 32 BN-1628) coming from Mahanagar hit him.
The boy was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead following serious head injuries even as the erring driver abandoned the bus and fled.
An angry mob gathered at the site of the accident and damaged the bus. They pelted another city bus with stones.
The Additional City Magistrate (ACM), CO Mahanagar and the SHO rushed to the site and tried to pacify the mob but the protestors were reluctant to hand over the boy’s body for post-mortem examination. They relented on assurances by the officials that the erring driver would be arrested.
Amir’s father Aqueel Ahmed, who own a furniture shop, alleged that the medicos on duty at the hospital did not attend to his injured son properly following which, the boy died.
