A 12-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by two persons in Kendrapara district, police said on Friday.
The girl was allegedly sexually assaulted a couple of days back in Mathasahi village under Rajkanika area.
The accused persons hailed from the same village as that of the girl and had acquaintance with her. Offering a cold drink and potato chips, the duo took her to a deserted spot and raped her by turn, said the Inspector of Rajkanika police station Bijoy Mallick.
Police swung into action following an FIR lodged by her relatives and arrested the accused-duo on on Thursday, Mallick said adding that the accused persons - Amar Sahu (23) and Pintu Das (19) - have confessed to the crime.
The girl was medically examined and her statement has been recorded. There was corroborative evidence of sexual assault on the minor girl, he said.
The accused had fled from the village after committing the crime and were apprehended from a nearby village by a special squad constituted for the purpose, the Inspector said.
The accused persons were booked under Indian Penal Code section- 376 (Rape), section-557 (Assault or criminal force in attempt wrongfully to confine a person), section-342 (wrongful confinement), section-506 (criminal intimidation) and sections- 4 and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.
