Thirteen British Muslims charged in connection with an alleged plot to blow up transatlantic passenger jets were set to appear in court on Monday.
They were among 25 people arrested by police in raids launched in the early morning of August 10. A total of 17 have been charged with terrorism-related offences, while the remaining eight have been released.
Of the 13 due in court, eleven face the most serious charges of conspiracy to murder and committing acts of terrorism.
They are: Ahmed Abdullah Ali, 25, Tanvir Hussain, 25, Umar Islam, 28, Arafat Waheed Khan, 25, Assad Ali Sarwar, 26, Adam Khatib, 19, Ibrahim Savant, 25 and Waheed Zaman, 25, Nabeel Hussain, 22, Mohammed Shamin Uddin, 35, and Mohammed Yasar Gulzar, 25.
Donald Stewart Whyte, 20, and Mohammed Usman Saddique, 24, both from the London area, are charged with "the intention of committing acts of terrorism ... To smuggle the component parts of improvised explosive devices onto aircraft and assemble and detonate them on board."
Stewart Whyte is also charged with having illegal firearms in his possession, contrary to the Firearms Act 1968.
The remaining four are charged with lesser offences, including withholding information about an impending terrorist attack and possessing items and information likely to be useful to someone planning an attack.

{{/usCountry}}Prosecutor Colin Gibbs said earlier this month that, because of its complexity, the trial was not likely to start before January 2008 and could even be delayed until several months after that.
