Traffic cops face wrath of ‘high and mighty’
ON THE third consecutive day of the drive against vehicles flouting norms, the traffic cops removed beacon lights from six vehicles and hooters from seven vehicles on Friday.
Besides, 15 four-wheelers were seized plying without registration numbers. Those caught moving in such vehicles included two MLAs of the ruling party and an ACJM.
Despite being shielded by an order from none other than Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav himself, the cops had to face the wrath of the high and mighty caught in the drive today. SP (Traffic) Onkar Singh and CO Traffic RN Singh led the campaign at the Hazratganj crossing.
The cops caught a vehicle fitted with red beacon light and hooter, owned by a Samajwadi Party MLA.
When asked if the owner was a minister or chairman of any local body, the driver replied arrogantly that his employer was an MLA of the ruling party. The officials, however, snubbed the driver and removed the light and the hooter.
The cops later caught the vehicle of another ruling party MLA with hooter and removed it after much effort. Both the MLAs engaged in a verbal duel with the policemen and issued threats for ‘ignoring’ them.

{{/usCountry}}The cops had to face similar trouble while removing blue/red beacon lights and hooters from 11 other vehicles. SP Traffic Onkar Singh said that the traffic police slapped challan on 183 other vehicles, including both four and two-wheelers, which were flouting traffic rules under Motor Vehicles Act. He further stated that the traffic cops realised a penalty of Rs 31,000 from the vehicles caught.
