The blast occurred in the stall put up by the Special Task Force (STF) at the Bandaranaike Memorial Hall and Exhibition Complex in the centre of the capital city.

Among the injured being treated at the National Hospital were three Buddhist monks.

The exhibition, put up on the occasion of the 59th. anniversary of Sri Lanka's independence, has been attracting huge crowds, including school children and Buddhist monks.

Military exhibits had the pride of place because of the recent military successes against the LTTE in the Eastern part of Sri Lanka.

It was not immediately known if there were any children among the injured.
