15 Gorkha men underwent training in Nagaland

The Assam arms haul case turned murkier with the two accused revealing highly sensitive information. During interrogation, the accused revealed that 15 Gorkhaland Personnel (GLP, a voluntary force affiliated to the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha) had undergone 14 days arms training in Nagaland in 2013 with the intention of launching an armed movement for separate state of Gorkhaland, under the banner of Gorkha Liberation Army (GLA).

The accused were produced at the chief judicial magistrate court, Darjeeling, on Monday. Police started a fresh case against the two accused — Umesh Kami and Ganesh Chettri. One rifle, ammunition and incriminating documents have also been recovered from an area known as 27th Mile, based on which a fresh case has been initiated.

“The prayer for 10 days of police remand will be heard on Tuesday. A lawyer under the Darjeeling Legal Aid Forum was appointed by the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) to represent the two,” said Pankaj Prasad, assistant public prosecutor (APP).

Police had recovered a huge cache of arms (including a M16 rifle, pistol and ammunition for AK series rifles, pistols and the M16 rifle) from a vehicle bearing West Bengal registration number (WB74A 4788) travelling from Dimapur in Nagaland to West Bengal on November 8.
