15 injured in police lathicharge in West Bengal

Fifteen persons, most of them women, were injured when police lathicharged a group protesting against the arrest of one person at Ayeshmali in Nadia district.

Fifteen persons, most of them women, were injured when police lathicharged a group protesting against the arrest of one person at Ayeshmali in Nadia district on Sunday.

Police said the mob tried to snatch an accused, arrested in connection with a bombing incident on Saturday and vandalised the police camp.

Police then resorted to lathicharge to scare away the mob.

Local people claimed the arrested person Toofan Sardar was innocent and ie was tortured in police custody.

Local opposition parties alleged police misbehaved with women during lathicharge and threatened bigger agitation in future.
