At least 16 persons, including five policemen, were injured when twin ‘low-intensity blasts’ rocked the area near Chinnaswamy Stadium, where nearly 40,000 people were waiting for a crucial IPL cricket match in Bangalore on Saturday evening.

Bangalore Police Commis-sioner Shankar Bidari told HT someone had placed the low-intensity explosives to spread fear among the city residents.
Police found traces of ammonium nitrate, glycerin and nuts and bolts wrapped around the bombs with crude timer devises, indicating that these were crude bombs.
Panic spread outside the stadium after simultaneous blasts took place at 3.50 pm — at gate number 12 and in front of police wireless headquarters, 200 metres from the stadium in an up market area of central Bangalore. Sixteen persons were injured in the blast near the Gate number 12 and admitted to Mallya Hospital, police said. A constable’s condition is said to be critical.
