The action was taken after a group of B Pharma students of the university allegedly threatened and harrassed some freshers.
The victimised students reported the matter to the university administration and also lodged a police complaint.
"We have suspended all 16 students, accused of ragging juniors, for a fortnight and will decide upon the future course of action at a board meeting on Wednesday," university proctor RP Mishra said.
A police officer told IANS that they have issued "a strict warning to the students that they will not harass any junior".
