18 killed as van plunges into stream in J&K

The overloaded van skids off the road and falls into stream while negotiating a curve in Poonch district.

At least 18 people were killed when a matador van skidded off the road and plunged into a stream in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

The overloaded matador, which was on its way from Sabzian to Mandi, fell into stream while negotiating a curve at Sunderi Nallah in the district around 0845 hours, officials said adding some passengers are also believed to have been injured in the accident.

Four of the deceased have been identified as Farooq Ahmed, Mohammad Iqbal, Ghulam Rasool and Salima. Relief and rescue teams have rushed to the site.
