A special CBI court on Tuesday awarded rigorous imprisonment (RI) to 18 convicts, including ten government officials, in fodder scam case no- RC 44 (A)/ 96, related to fraudulent withdrawal of over Rs 8.60 crore from Ranchi-based government treasury. The withdrawals were done on the basis of fake bills in between April, 1992 to March 1995.
These 18 persons were among the total 48 accused people who were convicted by the court on December 10.
The court of S K Dubey awarded ex-Regional Director of the Animal Husbandry Department (AHD) Junul Bhengraj, ex-Assistant Director, AHD, K M Prasad, C K Lal and Sailendra Kumar Sinha six years rigorous imprisonment, besides slapping a fine ranging between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh against them.
Dukhit Ram, S N Verma and Prabhat Kumar, all former AHD officials, got sentence of five years imprisonment and a fine amount of Rs 5.2 lakh each.
Ex-AHD officer Gouri Shankar Prasad, ex-treasury officers Prabhakar Kumar Ganguly and Jagdish Sharma each got four years prison terms. The court also imposed fine ranging between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 22 lakh against them.
The rest eight were fodder suppliers, who were handed terms ranging between three years and four years and a fine amount ranging between Rs 15,000 and Rs 26 lakh.

The court pronounced judgement against eight convicts on December 10. The quantum of sentence for the rest 22 convicts will be given on Wednesday.
