The Industrial Model Township (IMT) Manesar, which is spread over 3,500 acres of land and has nearly 2,000 industrial plots, doesn't have a post office. Reason: Differences between the postal department and the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation (HSIIDC), promoter of the township, over the issue.
While HSIIDC claims it is willing to allot space for the post office at Sector 1 of IMT, the postal department has been pitching for a ready-to-use infrastructure to move into the township.
“We have been requesting HSIIDC to provide us space for a post office at IMT Manesar at the earliest,” said a senior postal department official.
Moreover, the department has been asking for the space on concessional rates. “Ours is a public utility service,” said the official.
HSIIDC, on the other hand, refuses to provide a ready-to-move building.
“It's for them to construct a building for post office,” said Divya Kamal, estate officer, HSIIDC.
Kamal said “allotment of plot for a post office can be done only on institutional rates.”
The nearest post office from is in the National Security Guard premises, about three kilometres away. But the premises is not accessible to civilians. “Our correspondences, even if sent by speed post, reach in a week,” rued an industrialist.
