2 arrested for smuggling diesel, petrol in Puducherry

The search of a vehicle yields 4,000 litres of petrol and an equal quantity of diesel, which were about to be smuggled out of Puducherry.

Two persons have been arrested by food cell police for allegedly attempting to smuggle diesel and petrol from Puducherry to neighboring Tamil Nadu.

Police said that a patrol on their usual night rounds intercepted a tanker on suspicion at Thuttipet village of Puducherry on Friday. A search of the vehicle yielded 4,000 litres of petrol and an equal quantity of diesel, which were about to be smuggled out of Puducherry.

The tanker has been seized.

Police said that they were maintaining a close vigil on movement of vehicles at border points to prevent smuggling of commodities. "Those indulging in clandestine activities had also been rounded up," they said.
