The incident took place in the wee hours of November 14, 2007, when the victim had stepped out of her house to answer the call of nature at an open ground in Gautam Nagar in Deonar.

The convicts — Faiz Afroz Ansari (21), Mehtab Juggan Khan (22) and three of their accomplices — dragged the woman to a secluded place and raped her after gagging her with a piece of cloth.

As it was pitch-dark, there were no eyewitnesses to the incident. However, the victim had identified one of the accused, as he stayed in her area, and named him in the FIR. The medical tests conducted on the victim were found to be nil, however, there were bruises on her body indicating sexual assault.

One of the accused — Haider — is still at large While two others were tried in juvenile court.
