Both were out on bail and the incident happened in the afternoon opposite Jehangir Art Gallery at Kala Ghoda circle, near city sessions court, where their case was scheduled for hearing at 3 pm, police said.

The two were rushed to GT hospital, where they were declared dead, police said.

Himanshu Chaudhury (25) and Amjad Hussain Khan (40) were brought dead with bullet injuries, Medical Superintendent of GT Hospital Dr HS Jadhav said.

Eyewitnesses are giving conflicting account with some saying that the three assailants fled on a motorcycle while others said that they escaped on foot.
