Two women were found murdered after allegedly being gang-raped near a railway track at Jogipara area near the LGB International Airport in Guwahati.

Police on Friday arrested three men in connection with the case and said the accused had confessed to the crime.

Two of the accused are taxi drivers at the airport taxi stand.

The body of one woman was found naked on Thursday night while the second body was found semi-naked on Friday morning around 8am.

Both women are estimated to be in their late twenties, police said. Their identities are yet to be established. Police are waiting for the results of the autopsy.

Police said the crime was committed on Tuesday night. After the gang-rape and murder of both women, the accused threw away the bodies at different locations near the railway track.

Police seized two cars – Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Swift Dzire – allegedly used by the accused during the crime.

The accused were identified as Nripen Das, a shop owner near the airport and said to be the mastermind behind the crime, and taxi drivers Gopal Barman and Krishna Das.

The cops also picked up a man named Apurba Boro, owner of the WagonR, from Azara area for interrogation.

Investigations are on, said AP Tiwari, senior superintendent of police, Guwahati city.
