3,000 cops to keep an eye on F1 venue

An estimated 3,000 policemen have been drafted for security during the F1 race. Three additional DGPs, besides ATS and STF sleuths will supervise efforts to make sure India's maiden Grand Prix is a peaceful affair.

"ADG (security) Rajnikant Mishra will oversee the entire apparatus. He will be assisted by ADG (UP-NCR) and ADG (law & order). SSP Naveen Arora will be in-charge of inner circle security," said a top home department official from Lucknow.

A total of 10 battalions of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been pressed into service. Jawans of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have also been drafted.

"Multi-layer security arrangements have been planned. In view of farmers' protests, PAC men will be deployed in nearby villages. Traffic plans have been drawn and drills conducted," said Avdhesh Vijeta, superintendent of police (traffic).

Since a large number of foreigners as well as local race enthusiasts will be in town to witness India's maiden grand prix, the FIA has brought its own marshals for security.
