3 killed, 13 injured as SUV rolls down gorge

Three people were killed and 13 others seriously injured when a Tata Sumo they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down a 50-m-deep gorge at Mehra Mod near Barnot village on the Naggar-Bijli Mahadev road on Sunday.

Three people were killed and 13 others seriously injured when a Tata Sumo they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down a 50-m-deep gorge at Mehra Mod near Barnot village on the Naggar-Bijli Mahadev road on Sunday.

Those killed have been identified as Udai Prakash (25), a resident of Nathanu Seri village and driver of the ill-fated vehicle, and his two minor sons - Gopal Sagar (3) and Hitesh (1).

The incident took place when they were on their way to Naggar from Jana.

The injured have been identified as Tule Ram, Reshma, Lal Chand, Naina Devi, Ram Kumari and Lot Ram, all residents of Majhdhari village, and Pushpa Devi and Almi Devi of Soyal village, Kamla Devi of Nathanu Seri, Bahadur Singh of Archhandi village, Mine Ram of Jana, Guddi of Soyal and Tek Chand, a resident of Barnot village.

The injured were immediately shifted to the Kullu regional hospital. They are reported to be out of danger.

The MLA expressed shock and grief on the tragic death of Udai Prakash and his children.
Meanwhile, the district administration has released an immediate relief of Rs 30,000 to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 48,000 to the injured.
