The police said they all belonged to well-off families and had taken to crime “just to make some extra bucks and maintain a good lifestyle”. “These youths had looted cash and a cellphone from an employee of a brick kiln and valuables from some other people in Dadri on Saturday night. After getting an information, policemen in Dadri, Badalpur and Jarcha conducted simultaneous raids and arrested them,” said a senior police official.

The three students have been sent to a juvenile home in Meerut. The fourth one, who is kingpin of the gangs, has been sent to a jail in Ghaziabad. Police said the four reached a brick kiln on a motorcycle and robbed an employee and some other people present there at gunpoint and fled.

“Sumit, 24, was identified as kingpin. The other accused are Satyendra, Gagan (class X students of Mihir Bhoj Inter College) and Suraj (Class IX student of Anshu Inter College),” said the official.

In view of the rising cases of ragging and involvement of students in snatching and robbery incidents, the district administration has decided to prepare a data bank of all students studying at Greater Noida colleges.

With more than 50 educational institutions imparting professional and non-professional education to more than 80,000 students in Greater Noida, snatching (60 per cent), auto thefts (30 per cent) and robbery (10 per cent) are some of the crimes students have been found involved in.
