31 fall ill in MP village after consuming contaminated water

Many people were affected in Sangvi Neem village panchayat area after consuming contaminated water from a nearby water supply scheme. So far, 31 people have been found suffering from amoebiasis, said BMO.

Block medical officer (BMO) Rajpur MS Sisodiya, who is camping at Dawariya Faliya area of village panchayat Sangvi Neem along with a medical team, said that so far 31 people were found to be suffering from amoebiasis and stomach ache, vomiting and loose motion.

On Thursday, after consuming the water, at first around four persons suffered from dehydration and had to be admitted in the nearby primary health centre of Julwaniya. The toll later reached 31. Out of these, nine patients have been referred to Rajpur and Barwani hospitals, he said.

Dr Sisodiya said that people till now had been consuming hand-pump water but as the water level fell down, they decided to draw water from Lal Singh’s well which was not used for whole rainy season. All 20 houses of Dawariya Faliya are connected with Lal Singh’s well through pipe line. On Wednesday night, water was supplied from the well and the problem occurreThe BMO said that the people got infected due to consumption of contaminated water and that speedy measures were being taken for their treatment. He said that most of the patients are now out of danger. Nine more persons were treated for fever and cold cough problems.

He said as the patients are affected by amoebiasis they will take some time to recover so the department has decided to keep few members of the team at the village for a week to monitor them.
