A local police official said the accident occurred as the driver of an overloaded truck, coming from Bihar’s Sasaram, lost control at a sharp bend.

He said the passengers were mostly labourers coming back from home after the rabi harvest. However, identities of 11 dead are yet to be established.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Sibu Soren announced a Rs 1 lakh compensation to the families of victim and said, “The government will bear the treatment costs of those injured.”

Soren also said since bad roads and overloading caused the accident, the government would repair all roads. Deputy CM Raghubar Das directed the administration to ensure Indira Awas for victims’ families.
