Thirty-one people were killed and over 100 injured since last evening in heavy rains that lashed Uttar Pradesh triggering house collapses, flooding low-lying areas and snarling road traffic.

Most of the fatalities occurred due to house collapses, official sources said in Lucknow.
Fifteen people perished in heavy downpours in Sitapur, eight in Varanasi, six in Barabanki and one each in Gonda and Jaunpur districts.
The injured were admitted to various hospitals, the sources said adding torrential rains inundated low-lying areas and affected normal life in the state.
