The woman is now recuperating at the MMG Hospital, said a police official.

She was found with injuries on her throat and burns on her body. The woman alleged she was attacked by her husband who dumped her on the tracks, hoping she would be run over by a train, said the police.

The RPF officials noticed her lying on the Delhi-Howrah railway tracks around 6am. They informed the local police, who then took her to the MMG Hospital.

Doctors said the victim was attacked with some sharp-edged weapon on the throat. She had burns on her thigh, they said.

"Injuries on her throat led to bleeding. There was swelling on her thigh. She has alleged that her husband attacked her and left her on the tracks to die," said Shiv Shanker Yadav, SP.

"She braved the odds and managed to crawl out of the tracks. She was not in a condition to alert nearby residents. She survived the entire night and was noticed by the RPF personnel in the morning," the SP said.

"It is possible that either she might have been dumped on the tracks or attacked while walking," he added.
